This MIDI Touch Screen is an onboard guitar MIDI controller, also known as Kaoss Pad Guitar. Matt Bellamy from Muse was the first to use such upgrades in his custom guitars. Now similar technology is available by Bond Guitars.
How MIDI Touch Screen works: the touch screen contains two coordinate axes, "X" on the long side and "Y" on the short. The controller sends MIDI information and makes a bright-light show at the touch of a finger or a pick.
The most popular devices for use with such a controller are Korg Kaoss Pad, Digitech Whammy and Korg Kaossilator Pro. They can process the guitar signal and make those famous space sounds. In general, the controller can control almost anything that has MIDI. It is said that some people use it to control stage lighting.
